IMPROVING STUDENT’S OF CLASS XII IPA-1 AT MAN 8 JAKARTA ABILITY IN CRITICAL THINKING BY USING PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING METHOD
ABSTRACT
Many successful students complete their
assignments, do well on tests, and get good grades, yet they don’t ever
learn to think critically and deeply. Our schools turn out students who think
too superficially, staying on the surface of problem rather than stretching
their minds and becoming deeply engaged in meaningful thinking. Teacher should guide students to be better thinkers. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method is
one way to encourage students to think critically.
The problem which is investigated in this research is the
implementation of problem-based learning method to improve student’s
ability in critical thinking in physics. The subject
of this research is the students of class XII IPA-1 at MAN 8 East Jakarta.
To solve this problem, the
researcher using classroom action research (CAR) design.
Kurt-Lewin model’s CAR involves four steps, Planning, Action, Observing and
Reflecting in every cycle in this research. All of data from this research is
analyzed by descriptive statistic.
The increassing score of student’s test from 6.2 to
7.5 (21%) is significant improvement from the beginning to the end of the cycle. The
questionnaire has showed that all of students (100%) enjoy PBL method. Besides, they can think
better in critical way, and understand instruction better. Although 18% students feel that Problem-Based Learning method is uneasy, it can improve
the ability in critical thinking of the students.
